Went out to Spruce Mountain WV on spring break for a night and did 16 minutes of exposures on a bunch of different targets.

Stack Deets:

Equipment:

Camera – Sony A7iii

Lens – 135mm f/2 samyang @ f/2.8

Tripod – Bogen 3033 w/3047 head

Acquisition:

600x 1.6s exposures untracked, iso 52800

Flats: None

Darks: None

Bias: Used old bias frames from prev. exposures

Stack:

Siril – plate-solved all images and stacked w/ linear fit clipping

Processing:

BG extraction w/ graXpert

Spectrophotometric color calibration

VeraLux Hypermetric Stretch

StarNet star removal

Stretched starless a bit w/siril generalized hyperbolic stretch transform & adjusted black point

Star recomp

Cropped to square around interesting targets

Tried Syqon prism, and even paid for the deep model, it sucks balls. Not a fan, graxpert denoise looks better so I used that.

Working on building an OG Star Tracker but still need to buy the screws to get it all put-together.

  1. Will post my other stacks from that night as I get through them. I have Orion, Pleiades, the California Nebula, & the Dark Shark, all untracked with short exposures. Failed at andromeda and triangulum as there were clouds in the way sadly 🙁

    Also if anyone knows why my pics come out super green at the start lmk. I always have to use “remove green noise” in siril before anything else because my stacks are just pure green.
