The Greenville High School varsity softball squad opened its 2026 season Friday at home and grabbed a victory over Raymond Lincolnwood.
The final score was 9-2.
Ava Potthast was the winning pitcher, striking out 13 batters on Friday the 13th. Offensive leaders were Payton White and Claire Glisson with two RBIs apiece, and Zoe Englert with two hits.
The junior varsity Lady Comets scored eight runs in limited innings. Gabriella Hahs ripped two doubles, and Paige Knebel also had two hits.
The GHS softball girls play at East Alton-Wood River Tuesday, at Wesclin Wednesday, host Nokomis Thursday and go to Pana Friday.
