The upcoming Death Stranding movie director Michael Sarnoski is reportedly being considered to direct the sequel to Alien: Romulus.

According to a report by Nexus Point News, Sarnoski is currently the “preferred candidate” for the job. Sarnoski is known for writing and directing 2021 Pig, starring Nicolas Cage, and A Quiet Place: Day One, which was released in 2024. His next film, The Death of Robin Hood, is scheduled to release this year.

For now, this is not officially confirmed, and fans will have to wait for an official announcement.

Last year, Fede Álvarez revealed that he will not direct the sequel to his 2024 film Alien: Romulus. However, Álvarez will remain involved in the project as a producer. He also co-wrote the screenplay of the first film with Rodo Sayagues.

Reports about the sequel first surfaced in 2024. At the time, Steve Asbell from 20th Century Studios shared what the next step could be for the story. The sequel is expected to continue the story of the first movie. Asbell said, “The two survivors, Rain and Andy, played by Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson, were real highlights of the film. And so I always think of it like, ‘Wow, where do people want to see them go next?’ We know there’s going to be aliens. We know there’s going to be great horror set pieces. But I fell in love with both of them and I want to see what their story is.”

Álvarez has also said earlier that the sequel could “go into uncharted waters.” He added that it will be “exciting to go with characters you know from this movie, to a place in the Alien franchise that we’ve never been before, and to discover things that you’ve never seen before.” Spaeny and Jonsson are expected to return as Rain and Andy in the sequel.

For now, there are no confirmed details about the cast, storyline, or release window. At present, Alien: Romulus is available to stream in India on JioHotstar.
