In 1970, Soviet scientists Mikhail Vasin and Alexander Shcherbakov published a speculative article titled "Is the Moon the Creation of Alien Intelligence?" in Sputnik magazine. While not presented as proven fact, it attempted to interpret various lunar anomalies through a speculative engineering lens.

Some of the points often discussed in relation to this include:

• Apollo seismic experiments where impacts produced long-lasting vibrations
• the Moon’s relatively low density compared to Earth
• unusual crater depth ratios
• early debates about lunar formation before the Giant Impact theory became dominant
• how Cold War era scientific speculation sometimes crossed into philosophical territory

Of course, modern planetary science explains most of these through impact formation models and lunar geology, but it’s interesting how these early discussions helped shape later alternative history interpretations about the Moon’s origin.
