CHINA GROVE — It was 18 up and 18 down for Carson hitters against North Stanly pitcher Charlie Shaver on Wednesday.

Jarrett Hinson pitched the seventh for the Comets and completed the perfect game.

North Stanly won 5-0.

Shaver, an Old Dominion recruit, struck out eight and worked six innings on only 59 pitches.

Kendal Sifford pitched well for the Cougars (1-2), four innings with six strikeouts, but North Stanly was able to put together a decisive top of the third with the catalyst being a runner reaching base on a swing-and-miss strikeout on a ball in the dirt. A steal and a bunt single and then another steal set the table for Shaver to bounce a two-run single through the infield.

Shaver added a run-scoring double against Carson’s bullpen.
