Astronomer here! I can already almost guarantee it won’t be visible for me, because I live in Oregon. That said, I’m in the final month of a twin pregnancy, so I suppose the one advantage of waking up at all hours of the night is I don’t need to set an alarm during the wee hours to confirm if it’s clear or not!

Edit: y’all, it rains all the time in Oregon this time of year. I know you can physically see it if it’s clear, but the odds of it ever being clear in this state when something cool is happening in astronomy is slim to none.

  2. Help me understand whether its worth waking up early (and importantly, whether its worth getting the kids up) in Boston, MA and if so, what time would be worth it to start watching? Is the partial eclipse visible to naked eye before the full eclipse? Is full eclipse as it sounds, the moon completely blocked out by earth’s shadow? So, I’m thinking like 530am might be a good time to pay attention and watch it get blotted out….but not sure.

I took the kids to NH to see the total solar and it was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen. I have seen lunar eclipses and know what to expect, but I think it would be interesting for my kids to see one. Just hoping to get a bit of insight to explain when things will be happening. I *think* I understand this chart, but not completely sure.

Assuming the weather is clear, this is the timeline for Boston.
