Rock Island, Edgington, & East Moline, Ill. (KWQC) – Regional semifinal action took center stage in Illinois as teams took one step closer to a state championship.
At Alleman, the top ranked Newman Comets had a much better trip to Don Morris gym than their last trip to Rock Island a couple months ago. In their first meeting, the Pioneers battled the TRAC champs to the buzzer, with the Comets escaping with a three point win. On Wednesday, The Comets took the lead in the first and pulled away to a 85-63 win. The Comets will face Forreston in the Regional Final.
In Rockridge, the Rockets made the Riverdale Rams sweat in the Edgington Regional. Rockridge took the lead over the favored Rams in the fourth quarter, but Riverdale would go on a fourth quarter run to escape with a 58-47 victory. The Rams will face Chillicothe IVC next.
In Class 4A, the UT Panthers used tough defense throughout the night to stymie the co-Western Big 6 champion Moline Maroons. The Panthers held the Maroons to just 11 first half points, leading to a 55-43 upset.
Other local teams moving on: Rock Island, Sherrard, Galva, Eastland, Orion, Scales Mound, and Galena.
