SAN DIEGO, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson is coming to the Civic Theater in San Diego to talk about the planets and the search for intelligent life in the cosmos.
The astrophysicist, writer and TV host will give his “The Search for Life in the Universe” talk on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
According to the event website, Tyson will discuss the ongoing search for habitable planets and water, beginning with Mars. He will also explore the search for intelligent life and whether it already exists on Earth.
Tickets are currently on sale, but are running low. Available seats range from about $140 to $250.
Tyson is originally from New York City and earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Harvard and a PhD in astrophysics from Columbia.
In 2001 and 2004, President Bush asked Tyson to serve on two commissions that studied and made recommendations on the future of U.S. space exploration. In 2006, he was appointed to the prestigious NASA Advisory Council.
He has authored dozens of publications and books on the cosmic universe. He has also hosted television shows, including “Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey,” which aired on FOX and won four Emmy Awards.
Tyson has also received 27 honorary doctorates and the NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal, NASA’s highest award for a non-government citizen.
