At around 7.30pm yesterday (January 31), emergency services including the air ambulance rushed to the scene in Dane End’s Whitehill following reports of a crash.

A silver Nissan Note containing four people, for reasons unknown at this time, left the road and went up a verge and into a field, where it eventually came to a stop.

The front seat passenger, a 13-year-old girl, sustained serious head injuries and was airlifted to hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.

The other passengers, a 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl were taken to the Lister Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver, a 40-year-old man from Ware left the scene. He was arrested nearby on suspicion of causing a serious injury by dangerous driving, drink driving and taking a motor vehicle without consent. He is currently in police custody.

Detective Sergeant Ben Heath from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who was driving in this area yesterday evening and had a dash cam in operation.

“We would also like to speak to you if you witnessed the collision or saw the car being driven prior to it.”
