Russia's decommissioned Olimp signals intelligence satellite, abandoned in the GEO graveyard orbit region in Oct 2025, has apparently disintegrated – possibly due to a debris hit since internal energy sources should have been vented when it was retired.

    We’re such an irresponsible species. The Great Filter solution of the Fermi Paradox seems more likely by the day. Hopefully this is exclusively human.

    I don’t understand this sentence. Are they saying they can’t verify whether it was hit and internal energy sources could theoretically produce the same appearance? Some sort of explosion for instance?
