COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) — Public transit service operated by The COMET will be suspended Saturday across the central Midlands as winter weather threatens hazardous travel conditions, officials said Friday.

The Central Midlands Regional Transit Authority announced that all fixed-route buses, DART service and University of South Carolina transit operations will not run Saturday, Jan. 31, citing safety concerns tied to the expected snow.

Regular service will continue as scheduled Friday.

The suspension affects routes throughout Richland and Lexington counties.

Transit officials said the decision was made out of an abundance of caution as forecasts call for snow and icy conditions that could impact road safety.

Riders are encouraged to monitor service updates through The COMET’s website as conditions develop.
