Xjenza Malta, as a representative of the European Space Agency (ESA), is sharing information about the upcoming launch of the 2026 ESA Graduate Trainee Programme (EGT) in February. This programme is aimed at Maltese students who are in the final year, or have recently obtained a master’s degree in an engineering, science, IT or business services subject. Â
The EGT programme offers a unique opportunity for students to gain professional experience working on inspiring Space missions in an international environment. By working as a graduate on this programme, students are open to long-term career opportunities within Europe’s Space sector.Â
The traineeship lasts for one year, with possible extension to two years, at one of several ESA sites around Europe. Graduates can benefit from excellent employment opportunities and monthly salaries, which are exempt from national income tax in ESA member states. Travelling expenses at the beginning and end of the contract are reimbursed, while expatriation and installation allowances are given to cover the expenses of moving to another country. There is also a comprehensive health package offered under ESA’s social security scheme.
The EGT programme isn’t all about work. Graduates can get involved in several extra-curricular activities organised by ESA. These help people settle in and expand their networks, while fostering creativity and the spirit of teamwork among trainees. Â
Those who are interested in applying for this initiative can find out more in the online sessions that will be taking place as follows:Â
5 February @ 12:00 CET –  An explanation of the various entry-level programmes available at ESA through the ESA Graduate Trainee Programme 2026 ;

Candidates will be required to register, create a profile, and provide a CV and motivational letter.Â
Once candidates have set up their accounts, they can track the status of their application by logging into their profile. Pre-selection and interviews will take place between March and May and the final selection will be made by ESA in June 2026.
