BRIDGMAN — The Bridgman High School women’s varsity basketball team overcame a slow start on Jan. 16 to defeat Coloma 39-24 .

The visiting Comets jumped out to a 9-2 lead as five different players scored in the early going (Jopsehine Brookshire, Brooklyn Nord, Lila Groendyk, Tatum Arend and Grace Lute).

The Bees finished the first quarter on a 9-2 run to forge an 11-all tie as scores by Sophia Rodriguez, Angel Milam, Carmen Ernsberger and Abigale Rydwelski fueled the rally.

Errnsberger tallied 7 unanswered points in the second period, with a late steal and layup from Rodriguez upping the home team’s half-time lead to 20-13. Bridgman held Coloma to just two points in the second quarter.

The Bees out-scored the Comets 12-5 in the third frame as Kaylin Pinkowski, Kate Starbuck, Milam and Ernsberger sank baskets.

Pinkowksi accounted for 4 of the Bees’ 6 points in the fourth quarter.

“We worked together to come back,” Rodriguez said.

Milam credited “a lot of teamwork” for the win.

Ernsberger led the Bees with 13 points. Rodriguez finished with 7 points while Pinkowski and Milam each tallied 6 points.
