The satellite was officially named in 2019 after Eupheme, the ancient Greek spirit of praise, good omen, and triumph. In mythology, she was the daughter of Hephaestus and Aglaea and the granddaughter of Zeus. The name was suggested by Twitter user @iamalunartic through a Carnegie Institute naming contest. The terminal ‘e’ denotes its retrograde orbital configuration.
