The Pacman Nebula (NGC 281) is a striking emission nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia, which often resembles “Pac-Man” with an open mouth in images. It is a star-forming region—dense clouds of gas and dust are lit up and ionized by radiation from young, hot stars within it. The nebula shows dark dust globules and structures that carve contrasting “bites” into the bright hydrogen glow.
