On Monday afternoon, the Decatur Police Department announced the arrest of two illegal aliens and five others as part of an online child exploitation sting.
The department’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit conducted Operation Home Alone over the course of 10 days, with officers from the group communicating with individuals who believed they were in contact with a minor. Those arrested planned to meet in person for the purpose of engaging in sex acts with a child. Upon their arrival at a prearranged meeting place, they were taken into custody.
DPD offered a warning to local parents about their children’s online activity.
“The Decatur Police Department is committed to proactively seeking out those who take advantage of the most vulnerable in our community,” DPP said.
“We would also like to remind parents to be vigilant to what your children are accessing on electronic devices and who they are communicating with online. Please talk with your children about internet safety and the dangers of sending photographs and/or personal information to individuals they have never met, even those accounts that appear to be another child,” the agency added.
