The Greenville Comets led most of their opening game Tuesday night, but couldn’t close it out for a victory.
Playing at Nokomis, the Redskins outscored the Comets, 8 to 1 in the last two minutes and 15 seconds to win 39-33.
Greenville High led 14-5 after one quarter and 22-19 at half. Nokomis sank a midcourt shot at the end of the third period to get to with one point, then outscored the Comets 10 to three in the last eight minutes.
Christian Swalley led the GHS squad with 21 points. He sank five three-point shots.
The Comets resume play in the Kaskaskian Classic in Carlyle Saturday. They take on Okawville at 6 p.m.
The junior varsity Comets beat Nokomis 37-27 as Bauer Ackerman had 18 points for the winning team.
