It’s impossible to refute that James Cameron is one of the most legendary directors of all time. With hits like Titanic, Avatar, and Terminator under his belt, he’s become the second-highest-grossing director of all time with over $8.7 billion in total box office earnings. Cameron recently sat down for a new interview, which prominently features Cameron’s highly anticipated sci-fi threequel, Avatar: Fire and Ash. During the conversation, Cameron revealed that he had almost directed Jurassic Park before the job went to Steven Spielberg. Cameron confirms that Spielberg “was the right guy to make it,” and he admitted that his version of the film would have been much different.

“Not me,” Cameron said. “Because I would have made it too terrifying and R-rated. It would have been Aliens with dinosaurs.” Cameron famously took the reins from Ridley Scott in 1986 when he directed Aliens, the sequel to 1979’s Alien. Both are held in high regard as two of the most influential sci-fi horror pieces of all time. Cameron has become more well-known for his work in sci-fi in recent years, thanks to the blockbuster Avatar franchise, but he proved with Aliens that he can also deliver scares.

Cameron is certainly right that Spielberg was ultimately the right choice to direct Jurassic Park, though. The first Jurassic Park movie earned widespread critical acclaim and launched a franchise that continues to produce new films to this day. Just earlier this year, Jurassic World: Rebirth hit theaters, and although the franchise is a long way from the roots it planted in 1993, it’s still producing some of the most entertaining blockbusters Hollywood has to offer.

How Can You Stream ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth’?

Jurassic World: Rebirth wrapped up its box office run with over $850 million in global earnings, and the film recently began streaming on Peacock following its time on VOD. It’s still one of the top three most popular movies on Peacock at the time of writing, though it’s been displaced from the top spot by newer arrivals like The Bad Guys 2 and Nobody 2. Jurassic World: Rebirth’s Peacock streaming success has also prompted fans to check out earlier franchise installments. Both Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park are sitting in the Peacock top 10, and the other movies can also be streamed on the platform.

Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of the Jurassic Park franchise and Cameron’s future projects.
