Even as interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS has the social media in frenzy over it allegedly being an alien probe on a reconnaissance mission from beyond our home galaxy, Big Tech on Earth are planning to scale native civilization to upgrade on the Kardashev Scale. But how?
Sundar Pichai-led Google has already laid plans to send two satellites on low earth orbit to establish an AI data center in space. Jeff Bezos has a similar idea of harnessing the max of solar power without the constraints on Earth. Meanwhile Tesla, X/Twitter. xAI, and SpaceX boss Elon Musk has a full fledged schematics to achieve what would have been very sci-fi a couple decades ago. During his recent meeting with the Tesla shareholders, the 54-year-old former DOGE chief stated,
I see a path to Starship cost-per-ton-to-orbit being lower than air flight. That opens up a very wide range of possibilities. The most obvious one I think is actually solar-powered AI satellites.
He added
To move the AI to orbit and essentially deep space over time, because you can actually access over a billion times more energy from the sun in deep space than you can on Earth.
Further reiterating how earthlings can move to Kardashev 2 scale, Musk suggests
To make any progress on a Kardashev 2 scale, which is using some non-trivial amount of energy from the sun, you kind of have to do space solar power. You could only beam a tiny amount of that back to Earth or you would melt Earth. Earth actually receives a very, very tiny amount of the sun’s energy. Earth is a tiny dust mote. To scale with the sun, we look like a little crumb.
So, to scale civilization, to be at all relevant on a Kardashev 2 scale, like to even use a millionth of a percent of the Sun’s energy, you really have to have your solar power in deep space.”
In a series of tweets on X/Twitter, Musk emphasized how Starlink satellites can achieve the goal shortly, while also preventing global warming.
Simply scaling up Starlink V3 satellites, which have high-speed laser links, would work. SpaceX will be doing this. Think in terms of Kardashev II and the path becomes obvious
A large solar-powered AI satellite constellation would be able to prevent global warming by making tiny adjustments in how much solar energy reached Earth. It would only take tiny adjustments to prevent global warming or global cooling for that matter. Earth has been a snowball many times in the past.
