SS: Chankillo was built in 4th century BC placing their practice of astronomy approximately 2000 years prior to the Inca. The thirteen towers observatory adjacent to this site (second picture) and still considered a part of Chankillo, consists of thirteen equally spaced towers on the ridge line approximately 300 meters in overall length. They were constructed such that they would be able to determine the date of the year with an error of only one day, as well as knowing when the winter and summer solstices came to pass.

I think the “strangeness” part of this is twofold. One, I think many people assume these older civilizations were primitive and unintelligent, this of course shows that’s not the case. Two, yet another strange link to ancient Peru, Peru seems to be in the middle of everything lately.
